  1. The ad makes a good point, I think—cigarettes kill more people every year.

    Just because some people do, the entire world doesn’t’ have to walk on eggshells about referring to 9/11…

  2. I don’t think they were trying to “honor” 9/11—rather they were using it’s cultural ubiquitousness for a comparison.

    The ad is basically saying “we all know how bad 9/11 was because we all watched the events unfold on our televisions… but what we may not know—because smokers don’t die on TV, they die in their beds at home or in a hospital—is that worldwide, about 5,000,000 people die of tobacco-related causes per year—and that’s over 13,600 people dying EVERY DAY. Which, yeah, is a lot worse, deathwise, than 9/11.”
